ESRB pull 'Mature' rating off GTA: San Andreas

From the front page of HEXUS.gaming:

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has had it's 'Mature' rating pulled by the US Entertainment Software Ratings Board. The game has now been reclassified as AO (Adults Only), due to the now infamous Hot Coffee mini game and various third party patches which unlock previously hidden explicit content.

A one year age difference and the UK still has it as it was originally, 18.

I still don't understand why though, the mod is absolutely (swearing pun)

As far as I'm concerned, if you have to download something unofficial from an external site to gain access to the content, then that's not an official part of the game.

If there was a cheat code/combo or something, then maybe.

Did you see how senators and influentual figures jumped all over this in the US? They hate GTA and will do anything to cripple Rockstar Games, and as far as I'm concerned that's all this is.

Oh, and don't mind me, I only like the original GTA - I haven't even played GTA:SA.

Well Rockstar are suing companies like Datel as their add ons allow the mini game to be unlocked on the PS2 version.

Should be good if they win, can finally get all the crap players who cheat 24/7 off the scene./

spot the difference. oh, one has *longer* scenes of violence or sex, and thus is classified as you needing to be *one* year older? what utter bollocks

I had this problem when I worked at Woolworths.

The official line (at the time dunno if its changed) is that we have the responsibility to ensure it doesn't go for a underage child.

So when a 12 yr old came up trying to buy an 18 game i had to say no. Kid when and kicked off to his mum.

Mum comes over demands that its sold to her cos she's over 18, i politefully refuse, she argues, supervisor comes over and sells the game.

Supervisor is taken off work 2 days later.

When will parents take responsibility for their kids when they aren't on the computer too?

There's an update to this story now with Take Two making a statement... Rockstar are to release a version without the 'Hot Coffee' content and also a patch to prevent the mod working.

Check out HEXUS.gaming's front page for the full story.

Rockstar Games will be providing AO labels for retailers who wish to continue to sell the current version of the title.
Can we get hold of some? I fancy sticking AO ratings on regular household items.

http://gtawatch.1up.com/do/blogEntry...UserId=5635801 is a nice take on it.

The "sexually explicit material" in question doesn't amount to much more than exposed female nipples, which are much more insidious and evil than male nipples.

Great stuff. Never mind the fact that you can mindlessly slaughter practically anyone in the game, but bit of sex in it? Sex is baaad kids. One up for right wing America.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Maddox has updated a hilarious artice over said coffee:

I just wanted a video game, not eternal damnation in hell.

[...] Then I went back to playing the game and didn't notice anything different, except for when I took my in-game girlfriend back home, she now asks "how about a little coffee?" Naturally I got excited, because I was expecting to see a scene with the protagonist, Carl, and his girlfriend, Denise, sipping a tall cup of joe and discussing the finer points of globalization and how cultural distinction will shape future generations. Instead, I was shocked to learn that Denise wasn't talking about a delicious beverage made from roasted beans, but what she was really talking about was SEXUAL INTERCOURSE.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I thought there was some mistake, this couldn't be the family-friendly carjacking game I thought I knew
Another great take on the whole riduculous situation (site may offend)
