The new Semprons are nice, but they're still not enough to lure me away from Socket A. Considering that combination of an Abit NF7-S and a Mobile Barton, I still don't think there's anything that provides similar bang for your buck. The 3000+ Venice and a decent board might be similar, but the cost is still relatively high, especially once you factor in the potential cost of PCI Express.
If I can help it, I might just skip this current generation and go for the new socket (I can't quite remember its name - M2?)

M2 is indeed the next one, even though its 940 pion, it is not socket 940
