HEXUS.beans :: IDF August 2005 :: ATI set to launch RADEON X800 GTO

Fanny has unearthed a bean in San Francisco that we think will tickle the fancy of those people who are looking for some full-on 12-pipe 3D graphics action but for not much more money than the X800 GT which ATi recently announced.

It's in the form of another new skew from ATI...

Does the increase in different models point to a difficulty in fabrication of the current gen of GPU's?

Definately a likely scenario, or alternatively it could show desperation on ATi's part, that whilst nVidia steal the show with their 7 series, they have nothing to counter with.

CrossFire was blantently 'tit for tat' with nVidia; but with SLi and a whole new GeForce series on the market, ATi are losing ground. Fast.

And the lack of SM3.0 s gonna make next gen games harder to play, UE3 is going to use sm3.0 to its full potential.

ATi definitely need to being something special to the table and quick. Crossfire still isn't easily available is it?

Well it seemingly hasn't launched yet, motherboards which are tailored to it will be out around September it appears. I hope ATi do bring out something good, I've always been somewhat biased about them due to their history of good products in my experience

Since the rest of their product range for the next generation is supposed to be ready, once the R520 itself is ready, ATi may be able to release the new cards very quickly. Since the 7800GT(X) is still expensive, if ATi can get in before prices start falling, then I don't think it'll be too bad.

Too many products IMO, they seem to cross over too much. Still once crossfire and the new generation is out it should balance things out a bit.

yea i think this is purely a way to get rid of some of the old cores, but more cards on the market the better in my opinion, it only creats greater competition with end of the line retailers. Every new card useulally leads to rpice slahes on old cards weather ati wnat them or not.
