ATI updates Q4 revenue expectations, down over US$70mil

ATI has issued a Q4 financial update, revising its predicted revenue figures. The bad news is, their initial predictions were off the mark by a considerable amount.

Q4 revenues were expected to be in the region of $550 - $580 million US, which was predicted on June 23, 2005, but the update says ATI now expects revenues to the more like $465 - $480 million US, a drop of around $70 million US.

    Steve,

Just read the article, it seems it was the desktop stuff that was hurting the bottom line figures?, yet it also says that the new products not turning up yet was hurting ATI. Does not having a serious competitor to the 7800 line really have a big affect on ATI at the moment?

Well NVIDIA have SLI, ATI still don't have CrossFire out of the door, and they admitted last quarter that this was hurting them, so it'll have had more of an impact again this quarter.

ATI's desktop graphics card lineup has been a little confusing, and while they do have the new X800GT which is a pretty ace card, it's a limited edition affair, and they're selling off cards cheaper than they'd have preferred.

NVIDIA seem to have the upper hand on most fronts right now, not just top of the line, but I expect things will level out a bit once ATI get their new products on the way.

    clearly the result of sli.

I've always been some what of a ATI fan, but if i was to update right now, id be going with a 6800gt, sorry ATI. They clearly one the last round if you will, over the terrible FX range, but now it's nVidias turn, we can onyl guess what will come next?

In other news, ATI will roll out five AMD M2 chipsets next year.
ATI is preparing the RD580 and RD580C for the high-end segment, with the chipsets supporting ATI’s crossfire dual-graphics card technology, the source indicated. The two solutions will compete against Nvidia's nForce4 SLI (scalable link interface) series. According to ATI’s roadmap, volume production is slated for the end of this year, but sources stated the company will need to adjust its roadmap and bring it in line with AMD’s M2 launch schedule.

    Taking the macro view

I used to work in the PC system industry

When the company I worked for passed the '£2M revenue in a month' figure - there was a huge party - people went nuts - champaign flowed and the festivities went on long into the night at a nearby restaurant

Two years later, we went past £4M a month

    Nothing

No party - No champaign - No celebration - No good cheer

I thought at the time that we had it completely wrong

You hit the BIGGEST MONTH EVER - then you MUST celebrate the acheivement!

The same thing is true for companies if they land a record year (by a country mile)

In business, it is good to stay hungry - keep focused - and to always be a little disappointed even when you complete a spectacular year

(apologies up front to non-football fans)

When Arsenal went 49 games unbeaten last season - then were massively disappointed not to have made the '50'

In over 100 years of pro-level football - no other team has ever got close to a run of 50 games unbeaten... but still Arsenal were not happy

Jose Morinho delivers the first championship to Chelsea in half a century...

...and he is still unhappy about losing the semi-final of the European Cup

Landing a record year is a fantastic achievement in any environment

When your nearest competitor is 'pretty evenly matched' in terms of size, cash, engineers etc...

...then record years need to be viewed for what they are...

    ...CRACKING ACHIEVEMENTS !

I guess that it is nice that people feel there is still untapped potential within the organisation... but the past 12 months have still been pretty amazing

    Poor bugger.

I think that the main problem is that people want more and more.

Someone like Jose set himself a target and he failed to meet his personal target.

    Thats why he wasn't happy.
