New SATA cables - Latch on!

Ever had a SATA cable come loose, or perhaps you are never quite sure if you're connected it up properly? The new generation of SATA products feature improved connectors and AKASA has provided HEXUS with some pictures that demonstrate this. Read more about it here.

What a simple idea but a great one nonetheless. I'm still using IDE but that is just so much neater and secure.

I dunno, my SATA cables (I think they are second gen ones. The ones DFI ships) stay on just fine, in fact, they old on too well sometimes.

I've made my SATA RAID array critical by knocking out (well not completely, but enough to break the connection) a connector. I think they're handy.

Good idea - i've knocked them out once in a while. Incidentally does the SATA cable itself supply power because i could of sworn my array was still running with one drive's molex out..

I've found how to stop mine from falling out.

I've weaved them together like a plait and they no longer fall off

Yeah it's good Akasa (who make some of the best cables around) have taken this idea up. Although the latch is hardly a new idea, my Gigabyte K8N Pro-SLI came with SATA cables with the latch. They are very good as well as nice and secure. Maybe part of the SATA2 specification is that the cables need to have the latch, either way it's very good.

It seems Savastore already have them instock and listed on their website:

SATA 2 Day Glo Blue UV HDD Cable 45cm with Latch

Nice price as well, shame I can't order from them. Bloody Visa Electron .

Was about to say myself that a Gigabyte board I installed in a PC had those on.

Yeah, much better than manufacturers making them extra tight (too tight in some cases) to get round the problem of them falling out.

Abit included these with their mobos ages ago. Not sure if they are made by AKASA though.

Nah they wouldn't be, they would just be bog standard ones, the same as any other bundled cable.

Am I the only one who has never ever had a SATA cable fall out? My computer has travelled about 1000 miles in it's lifetime, to and from college, and the cable stays solid as a rock!

I've also never had one fall out, but you have to admit, they are no where near as secure as IDE cables. And the more secure the better tbh.

You are also using an Akasa SATA cable, which are better than the standard cables bundled with the motherboard. So that could be something to do with it as well.
