Kerio personal firewall (FREE) to be discontinued!

    Hi

Dont know if this has been posted before but if its true i'm a bit sad as i've used this for the last year without any hitches! Heres some info from kerio:

Kerio Technologies has grown into a significant player in both security and messaging markets. We have achieved many accolades, and we have many satisfied customers all over the world.

Kerio now employs over one hundred people in our three offices worldwide. We want to continue to deliver products that you enjoy to use. We made a promise to give our customers the best products in their category. And that means implementing some changes in our product strategy.

During the second half of this year, Kerio will be discontinuing two host-based security products from our portfolio – Kerio ServerFirewall and Kerio Personal Firewall.

Kerio Personal Firewall will be discontinued as of December 31, 2005. It will not be available for purchase after this date. Subscriptions will not be renewed. Technical support will be provided to all customers with valid subscriptions until the end of 2006.

Thank you for your support of Kerio.

    Cheers,
    Joshua Thomas

    Awwwww - that's a real shame .

Well, I suppose I might as well start looking now, so does anyone know of another decent free firewall?

I just brought a netgear DG834 (yet to install it) so when i install that are you saying just use the FW that comes with router/modem?
If so that would be handy! How do i go about setting it up, any good guides?

Thing is, they have done nothing to improve it since v5 came out and tbh it's looking quiet dated now.....

Just because the GUI hasn’t changed does not mean it has not been improved. I highly doubt they would go from v4 to v5.6 with no changes made
I don’t care how it looks, it uses hardly any resources (which im happy with !), and it does the job, brilliantly.

Has its own step by step guide for yours.

    http://www.portforward.com/netgear/dg834.htm

Netgears a good choice, I got a zoom adsl modem/firewall/router, its quite a pain to setup, but I've dispensed with software firewalls.

Most people recommend you still use the windows sp2 firewall though, I'd try with it for awhile, see how confindent you are you have the router setup 1st.
