    AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 examined

    Browsing the wonderful DataFuse.net this weekend, we happened across a link to a Chinese article looking at AMD's up-coming Athlon 64 FX-60. It would have been the FX-59, but 60 is a nicer number.

    It's a dual core part and sits on Socket 939, with 128KiB L1 and 1MiB L2 cache per ore. The originating website, PCPOP (Google translation) has some minimal benchmarking too.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    yummy... 2.8Ghz Dual Core goodness.. but then again.. most 4400+ will do 2.8Ghz..

    Maybe a 2MB cache per core would have been more impressive.... bah, I could never afford something like this anyways..

    Its nice to see Intel 840EE getting slapped around like a fat horse....

    I want 4 of them! 1 for my pc, 1 to hang on the wall, 1 to keep in my wallet and show anyone who mentions intel and the last one for a Vote AMD button.

    Only one problem: its all going to be outdated in a couple of weeks.

    ...remembering the time when a 25mhz 86030 was state of the art...

    An interesting Lessson, which I learnt after buying the FX55, and then an FX57 for a second PC, the FX chips are a work of art, they truly are, but the difference between them isn't noticable. This one maybe different having the dual core technology, however as most games (which these chips are really aimed at being honest) can't really make full use of the dual core technology, so at this very early time, I can't see the benifit. The FX55/57's will come down in price after this chips launch, and from my personal experience these chips will last for a reasonable period of time.
    It is Inevitable.....
