AMD FX-60 to arrive in January

    Can I get a 'woot'?
THE AMD FX-60 is due out in the second week of January.

Preliminary reports are that it will be a decent overclocker, early samples went to almost 3GHz on air, with little or no tweaking.

Hmm, this is on my shopping list, but like many I'm wondering if it'll be dual core or not. The switch to a 6x naming series (as opposed to naming it the FX-59; the logical successor) suggests that it could be more than just a tweaked piece of silicon. This story over at The Inquirer suggests it is indeed a dual core part, but they talk of 2.8 GHz clock speeds, rather than the 3 GHz I'd heard elsewhere.

3ghz dual core is not going to happen, certanly not for while.

I reckon it will be 2.6ghz multi unlocked, 1mb each, dual core.Unimpressive to say the least.

Smokey21: this image suggests base clock of 2.8 GHz. Remember that the FX-55 was 2.6GHz. Given that AMD had already acknowledged that dual core wasn't the ultimate for gaming (the FX was) it'd have to substantially add on what the FX-55 gives if it was to remain at the same clock. It'd be pointless introducing a CPU with a lower clock than the FX-57 which only adds dual-core (it'd end up being slower for single-threaded games - I'm not sure I'd pay the requisite arm and a leg for that).

2.8 GHz dual core seems like the safe bet here, but the suggestions that it may be easily overclocked are encouraging.

It's reported that they can reach 3GHz, not sayin' they are going to be 3GHz. Plus, nVIDIA and ATi will probably release drivers that will use both cores to their advantage in games, so it's pretty cool AMD are making a DC FX chip.

I don't know how this can be unimpressive for 939 people! - This could be the best thing for them!

I've made my friend turn from intel to AMD, and he plans on one of these babies to save him!

    BEER to AMD!

Well 2.8ghz, Dual core, is going to cost an arm a leg and a kidney, seeing as one 2.8ghz X-57 is well over 600quid, and the 2.4ghz 4800+ is the same.

    Like i said, i reckon 2.6ghz.

Well, if it's less, I'm sure I'll be able to find something to spend the excess on.
