VIA's Nano-ITX now available... in Japan

    About bloody time!
Forget the rest of the world, I've been waiting for these for what seems like an eternity. VIA's 12cm x 12cm Nano-ITX motherboards are now available to purchase, reports the Akiba PC Hotline. The only snag is that currently, they're only available in Japan.

Erm, really should have dual LAN, so it could compete with the WARP boards.
Gigabit would be nice too, and no DVI....

I've waited so long for this, and now i'm really not excited.

Agreed, though in theory a mini-PCI card could be added if you really wanted two LAN ports.

    From the spec page
    - 1 LVDS/DVI connector (an add-on card is required)

    excellent!

How does the Nano 1ghz compair to the regular Epia 1Ghz. Pretty sure it is more efficient with heat production, but what about performance?

DVI via addon is the problem i have Should be by default!

Also minipci addon's for 100/1000/10base normally require magnetics to be on the board (like DIMM based MACs do). But my experiance of embedded PCs is little.

Performance of these boreds is a tricky subject. In my experiance its very much what your doing on them that counts, i'm a hudge mini-itx fan, i've got 5 at the moment (just in my room) for things like my projector, my music, my firewall, my domain controller. There is a distro of linux aimed purely at these boreds, but i've found that (suprise surprise) windows has AMAZINGLY better performance on these boreds. NT4 flys along, as does 2k. XP you have to be brutal and remove a lot of those fancy settings.

But the new processor i expect to be even slower. So i wouldn't like to make predictions, yet for my small personal network, a MII 1ghz has no problem doing everything i need at a very fair (for silent passively coooled laptop HDD making most sound and that's a seagate) box.
