    Phantom games console boss quits

The former Xbox executive, Kevin Bachus, has quit as CEO of Infinium, the firm behind the broadband Phantom games console.

Mr Bachus joined just under a year ago after being part of the team behind the original Xbox.

They may as well all quit.

When anyone mentions the nextgen consoles, they always mention the PS3, X360 and Rev. Never, ever the Phantom.

The thing is - MS could have made this sort of live feed of games off the 'net with X360 I suspect but didn't.

You can be sure if it was a viable business opportunity they would have done too, which does indicate the technology isn't ready yet for a mass produced console.

i think the main limit in there is bandwidth - over a typical broadband connection it would still take an age to download a full dvd-size game..

I don't think bandwidth is the major issue, even on 2meg a DVD doesn't take that long to download. The main problem is that one game would push most home users over the measly caps provided by broadband services today. Also, when people pay money for something, they want something physical, and I'm the same. I'll always pay a little more for a CD and box than just a download.

4 hours is still too long. You could have gone out, bought the game and come back home by then
