Intel roadmap update - prototypes of first quad-core desktop processor built

At IDF Intel was making a lot of noise about its multi-core processor plans. TG Daily has details on some of the 21 multi-core CPUs that will be coming out in the next two years, and beyond.
Merom will introduce Intel's next-generation micro-architecture in Q3 2006 and spread out into a mobile part (Merom), a desktop chip (Conroe) and a server processor (Woodcrest). This 65 nm generation will bring 7 new processors, including "Kentsfield" - a desktop chip that will combine two dual-core dies within one processor package. According to sources, prototypes of Kentsfield were produced during this quarter; volume availability of the processor is scheduled for early 2007.

I hate the new Intel logo on the Tom's Hardware page ... Also, I feel Intel are focussing on the branding of Processors (i.e. incorpating them into Centrino, Viiv etc) far too much. Surely this will put off business and self-builders; the differentiation between processors is very unclear.

Tom's has diversified into sections. While TG Daily is part of Tom's Hardware Guide, it's also now considered its own entitiy, hence the name and unique logo.
