    VGA Charts Winter 2005

A whole lot of cards in a great bit chart... Tom's Hardware line 'em up.
In all, we have assembled a field of 25 candidates using the PCI Express interface. Of those, 21 are single-board solutions while the remaining four are SLI configurations. Cards range from the GeForce FX 5900 and the Radeon X600 to today's high-end cards such as the GeForce 7800 GTX and the Radeon X1800 XT with its 512 MB of video memory. All of these cards can be compared across 50 charts detailing the results of seven benchmarks run at various screen resolutions and different quality settings.

Like i said in the Video card section, thats the biggest steaming pile of crap ive seen from toms for a while.

    They think a 6800Ultra is 20% quicker than a X850XT PE, lol, and a SLI 6600GT, 7800GT and 7800GTX are faster than a X1800XT.

    What planet are they on.

    Stop being such a fanboy

Either one of those cards (Or the geforce 6600 GT's in SLI) are nice setups and also pretty expensive. With that being said, keep in mind that the X_00 Series of cards disable a LOT of details in their drivers by default. Where the x850 XT PE's get spanked is usually in Open GL games or games where full details actually are enabled

Plus, you CANNOT deny that a $299 (US) evga Geforce 7800 GT factory overclocked to GTX speeds is a great deal and more than enough speed for any game.

ATI or nVidia both make great cards. The issue is the best performance at whatever your budget is. If your budget is $600 US, you're best off getting a x1800 XT. If your budget is $300, you're best off getting a 7800 GT. ATI and nVidia both rule hardcore lol.

Thanks to tom's for a great lineup of video cards for comparison and even more thanks to them for exposing ATI's dirty little driver secrets!
