Word has it that this afternoon will see the launch of Firefox 1.5, the much awaited update to everybody's (well, quite a few people's) favourite open source web browser.
By now you all know whether you like Firefox or not, so if you want the latest version, keep an eye on the Mozilla website and bear in mind that a localised (en-GB) version of the browser will probably be available a few hours after the US version.

Im using Deer Park Alpha at the mo as my browser, do you think that 1.5 is going to make good use of 64bit processors like deer park.

i dont know, but i expect to see quite a few of my extentions broken until they are updated for the new release. I will probably hold off updating until im sure my extentions work, i dont think i can live without some of them (especially my OnSpeed one).

what i've got her on at the moment, with my 'new' security platform (basically forces processes to be signed by me, or dosen't let em run) so i'm not remotely worried about holes.
Its her stupidity, i explained phising to her, but she got a (to be fair very well made) email pretending to be from ebay saying she had money over due for payment. She nearly gave them her details but luckily i happened to sign onto MSN.
Basically its only because my mum's now a REALLY bad cripple, that she's using the net (i built her one of the laptops, thanks dave for your bargins!). I'm waiting for IE 7 Beta 1 to be more stable, but i've been using it fine for months now, so i might stick her on that, if i'm allowed by my license

not to mention ie still can't deal with post-1998 web pages properly
depends. i've not been able to test rc3 extensively, but username-urls (e.g. http://www.ebay.com_________________..._____@scam.biz) prompt for user action. IDN spoofs give a 'server not found' (though these aren't exactly common)
really want something like colour coding for trusted sites (get her used to choosing to trust a comapny with her info) some decent certificate security, because as she's getting less and less mobile, she's using the net more and more, i fear she is outpacing her learning curve with ideas, and passions of what she wants to occomplish.
As for browser security, wasn't it the reg that had an artical a few months back about the number of firefox bugs been found was greater than IE bugs, because iE is an older code base this shouldn't be suprising. If your running as a regular user, and have active scripting only for trusted sites (which is how it should be by default, ala win 2k3) then its a safer browser. All the security concernes are from horrifically poorly written (didn't take enough time imo. If you don't need active scripting and all this malarkie, TURN IT OFF! Using a browser that dosen't have it is proof enough you need it. Also how am i ment to manage updates for firefox? She is a regular user only, microsoftupdate is a great tool that does office, windows, ie. How am i ment to do that?
But as i've said, security isn't an issue, she is a regular user, and i've my specail code running on the interupt vector for CREATEPROCCESS's as such nothing can be loaded that i don't want to be loaded. I'm so kinda to mummie.

actually, el reg was pisstaking a report that claimed ie was more secure, not based on the vulnerabilities dound, but on the disclosures by the companies themselves. now, since MS deny a critical flaw exists until it's already patched (see the recent javascript debacle as an antique non-critical flaw shown to actually be dangerous), ms can claim to have a lower number of critical vulnerabilities - if they pretend they don't exist, then for the purposes of the ms-funded report, they didn't.
can't see anything obvious. i think there are extensions for this, but those probably don't work with 1.5 yet
