All I want for Christmas is AMD

It seems that HP's stock of AMD-based computers have... well... run out, apparently due to a massive surge in the number of people after them.
AMD may have pulled the ultimate coup by hiring Santa Claus as a salesman. Or so it seems by looking at HP's desktop PC online store where AMD-based products have sold out. High demand has cleared HP of 2.2GHz Athlon64-based systems and kit running on the 1.8GHz Semprons. Intel-based gear remains up for grabs across the board.
Word is it's not AMD being unable to meet demands, but rather the sheer number of unexpected purchases.

What's the difference between a number of unexpected purchases and not being able to meet demand?

This kind of thing doesn't help AMD ease the fears of people like Dell whose entire model works on very close mapping of supply and purchases.

This kind of thing goes a long to towards identifying why Intel dont want people selling both AMD & Intel in their range.

That said, Dell sells all it's PC's off the back of the Intel P4 logo, wonder how AMD would shift with them??

It means AMD has the chips, HP just doesnt have the computers to put them in.
