Large LCD price rise imminent in the EU

Watch out, the EU has decided to slap a 14% duty on any >=19" DVI LCD imported from outside the EU... which means the majority of them.
This spells trouble in particular for Media Center rigs, which often require a large monitor.

ICT Office says that the EU tariff conflicts with the Information Technology Agreement (ITA), which clearly states that the use of levies would not be encouraged through future trade agreements.

rediculous honestly - just damages our competitiveness with the world market and companies will come to rely on the tariff - so if it is removed they go bust anyway...

Thankfully I'm only in the market for a 17" display, but this still sucks big time.

Once again the great rolling behemoth of the EU strikes against the interests of "it's own" citizens. When are we going to wake up and smell the coffee?

This is gonna bump up the price on the dell 30 inch tft i was planning to buy next spring.... damn, they did the same thing and slapped a tax duty on dvi input tft's a while back thats why vga tft's were cheaper than the dvi equivalent. When does the price rise come into force?

Some LG stuff is made in walesland, yes, but I don't think the entire EU stock of LG monitors is.
