    R580 spotted

    The folks at HKEPC Hardware have a couple of shots of an R580 chip and accompanying PCB. R580 is, of course, the next high-end graphics chip that ATI will be offering up.

    Notable aspects of the chip is the sheer size of the die - she's a big one. There's talk of the power requirements, and just how much power the 12V rail of the PSU will have to provide for a card based on R580, especially in a Crossfire configuration.

    While more details emerge, why not check out the pictures of the behemoth over at HKEPC.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Bloody hell, see what you mean there; it's massive! I wonder what Nvidia will do to counter.

    "The site claims that you need 450W with 30A for a single card while you need a minimum of 550W PSU providing 38A for two cards." - From the Inquirer

    Good lord, that's some serious power consumption, i guess only about 10% of the high end PSU can provide 38A of output.

    I wouldn't read to much into the PSU requirments, we will see.

    The card looks to be a beast, going to be interesting. Looks like there going to be using the same GDDR3, to keep demand, and cost down.
