That certainly packs some heat... Literally.
New Sig on the Way...
There is certainly a need for a new motherboard standard
6 Slots design won't be enough for the future if this kind of beasts keep coming out.
They'll probably throw out Octec SLI very soon.

Would need a small nuclear reator to run that.
I myself prefer small compact and where possible quiet PC's are PC's going in reverse e.g. mobile phones get smaller PC's get bigger?
Personally, I think a more interesting machine is their 20.1" widescreen luggable with detachable keyboard etc., the XPS Mobile Concept. Chuck in one of the P-M dual cores and say the 7800GTX Go and things could look very interesting. Plus, I know they're targeting the system as an entertainment box, but I can think of a couple of my directors on whose desks this would look just peachy.
Also, I just wonder exactly how big the market for SLI or Crossfire actually is. In terms of the mid-range cards, then it seems as though you're spending more for the same performance as you'd get from one of the high end cards if you're lucky while running an increased risk of compatibility issues, and if you go for the high end cards (your 7800GTXs or X1800XTs) then you get whacking performance but at a huge cost. I'm probably just a cheapskate, but aside from the willy-waving PR side of things, it seems like a functionality that's either looking for a market or has found quite a small one.

Impressive. Looks like they don't need a CPU or RAM in that system
The top range was never about selling large volume - dell need a kicking system to showcase.
They do need a CPU, and a really beefy one i believe, just not to bottleneck teh 4 vids

I guess it's time to tell my GF that I'm remortgaging the house then...
Just caught this on The Inquirer: "Our product line is hotter than ever," Dell said.
Now that's a good example of irony lol

"Sat on a motherboard built around the nForce 4 SLI X16 chipset"
Is there an Intel version of nForce 4?
Or does this mean either nForce is going Intel, or Dell is going AMD?
Dell doesnt do AMD so you only get Intel with them, which is a big joke when they are marketing XPS as a gamers pc and Intel never was a gamers CPU.Originally Posted by divinemadness

if people had these at the gathering this year
there would be no need to heat the place
in fact it would be the first time they would use the a/c
it's apparently a 'factory over-clocked' 4.26Ghz Intel EE dual core chip. at least according to the register..
