    Macworld Expo: Intel powered iMac launched

    Currently running is the Macworld Conference and Expo, with Steve Jobs providing a keynote address with a number of new announcements, like the launch of the first Intel powered Macintosh.
    At the heart of Apple's new iMacs, which share the same design as their old one (externally at least), is Intel's Core Duo processor - that's a dual core Yonah to you and I. Check out our Napa overview for some details on Yonah. This news is of course significant as it's the first ever x86 based iMac.

    Now that I'm outside the article, might I express my desire to kill myself? I'm not sure how many times I can write iSomething without going mad, and if one more word is created to define a pre-existing action, just so it sounds trendy, I might explode.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Macbook pro......LOL has Steve Jobs lost his mind?

    Tiger is a very nice OS and has superb features! Only thing is i've seen what Vista can do and i can tell you it's a heck of a lot better than 10.4.

    AND.....I cant believe that Apple customer pay that kind of money for their products!!!!! Are they too stupid to see that they are getting ripped off, then when it comes to repairs it's a joke. Yeah they look nice and they've got a slick looking OS. But so what!!!! They claim their OS is better value for money???? They only Charge £80 for the OS but they release one every year!!!!!

    At work we paid £130 for a PSU for a 600MHZ g4 Powermac!

    They'll never come close to what Microsoft is!

    Could you get XP Pro on one of these?

    The specs are nice ... much the same as whats in the new Acer 8200 series range, but the mac looks like bit nicer and also looks a lot lighter.

    My only gripe is the OS which I wouldn't fancy using much, A man can only accept so much change

    Surely the whole point of getting a MAc is for OSX? Most of the hardware is decidely 'PC' based, so you may aswell just buy a PC surely?

    You're quite right there. But when it comes down to it, the Apple laptops normally look much nicer than any of the others on offer apart from some Sony models.

    Since both Sony and Apple are as expensive as one another, it'd be a tough choice between the two.

    And yes I know, i'm sad because I go for looks over good specs and price

    Yea im wondering what the point is now with Apples, same spec as a PC, your basicly paying a lot more jsut to get Mac OS and a nice looking machine, worth it? not imo.

    how about iNtel?

    4x faster once they move over to PC chips? - pity it wasn't to AMD dual cores for the bestest speed there is

    check out their press on www.apple.com/macbookpro - " With the new iLife ’06 (included, of course), you can even record movies with iSight right into iMovie, then use the new iLife’s newest application, iWeb, to create a video blog entry or podcast in just a few clicks "

    ROTFL!

    very un-iMaginative for SUCH creative people.

    Yes Apple make nice looking stuff and so does Sony. But lets not forget about Asus

    http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/proddeta...top_W2Vb-U010M

    IMO that is a much nicer system than Apple and Sony, look at the features you get this that.....and it's cheaper than the MACBOOK PRO (lol what a stupid name)

    I know it's been done already with regards to someone porting the Apple OS to PC Intel machines. But once it's been made easy with idiot proof instructions......what would be the point in buying an Apple machine?? You could just get a nice looking system like the one's we've been talking about, save a load of money there....then port the Apple OS (if you really wanted to as Vista isn't far away) and at the same time save your self around 80% of the repair charge.

    I work for a design company and i get sick and tired of dealing with Apple Customer Services......they are the worst in the world! Our Sales and Accounts dept are on PC's and i spend about 90% of my time dealing with mac problems.

    The only market they've got are their little followers that hate Microsoft!

    (Not anti Apple too much....honest)

    No. But Vista will work.

    Apparently Apple will not prevent you from running windows on this (why would they? they make their money on the hardware and an OS you won't use and won't offer any support while windows is on it. win win)

    The reason for XP not working on it is that it doesn't have a BIOS it has EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) which XP doesn't and won't support.

    Betanews has more info (or at least a longer article)
