    Radio DJs deface Wikipedia

    Here's a show of responsible behaviour - deface the Wikipedia, on the country's most listened to radio station. Now that's clever.
    DJs Scott Mills and Mark Chapman took turns to deface their own entries.

    The pair were inspired by a Wikipedia entry on a colleague. Edith Bowman, claimed the site, was romantically linked with a string of stars, including the 78 year-old singer Harry Belafonte.

    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    I'm sorry but whats the problem with defacing your own entries?. Sure its not the most grown up thing to do but its hardly a crime is it...

    Certainly not really that news worthy if you ask me....

    It's completely outrageous, i can't believe this kind of behaviour is being encouraged, i'm not a lawyer but surely Scott Mills coud be sued for him encouraging the introduction of false information to a public source, he's promoting vandalism and someone who i normally like has now attacked something very dear to me.

    W*nka.

    lol, you know how bad wiki is for racist remarks on famous human rights activists profiles are?. I'm sure you could argue that he has a right to ask them to remove all the information as the information might not be accurate and correct under the data protection act.

    The whole point of making a fuss over it just plays into their hands, and they gain publicity. In the scheme of things to worry about in this world this is just trivial and nothing to get worked up over. (at least in my opinion)

    If the editing is limited to their own entries, then i guess it's within their right to edit it how they feel appropriate, as long as they stay away from the rest of Wikipedia.

    Personally, I think that anything which shows the inherent unreliability of Wikipedia as a source of accurate information is probably a good thing.

    hopefully this just helps to highlight one of the critical problems with using the internet for any type of research - the information is only as good as the person who put it up there in the 1st place. the rubbish people will believe, simply because they read it on the wild wild web, never ceases to amaze me...
    ..from my personal experience (and with the exception of info tech as a subject), the net offers extremely limited levels of info. there is plenty of width, but no real depth - i tend to use the net only as a way to locate journal articles, books etc that I then order via amazon etc..

    Information in journal articles and books is also only as good as the person who wrote it. I am always hesitant to believe things I read and I always try to check it with sources I trust.

    Bunch of muppets, what do you expect from Radio One. Yhey probably don't undersand the spirt of Wikipedia, but i'm not really bothered. Maybe someone should do the decent thing and delete them from existance.

    Ok, no one should take it as 100%, but i am supprised at how good it actually is. A recent study should that its pretty acurate.

    When idiots don't abuse it - a Wikki can be one of the best web resources.

    Having lost almost 6 months worth of work on a project due to idiots like this, it does annoy me greatly.

    I actually think its rather funny, and people who take this sort of thing seriously should take the cob of corn from there ass tbh, i would hardley class this as vandalism, chuking a load of white paint on my blue car is vandalism, how does that compare ...

    god gave you a sense of humour for a reason..

    I don't call 6 months worth of wasted work by a team of volunteers a laugh in my own case.
