Although Scan Computers has been offering a range of video editing systems for quite some while, it's seemed to dabble rather than go all out for market share in this relatively small but potentially lucrative sector. Judging by the company's attendance at this week's VideoForum show, though, the dabbling is over.

The very fact that the company had a stand is a clear indicator of its seriousness but others were apparent, too. The size of the stand, for one - not huge but big enough to demonstrate that the company means business.

Significantly, Scan's showing included the current HOT video-editing hardware/software combination, Canopus's EDIUS NX - far and away the most convincing of the affordable (though not ultra-cheap) solutions for editing the consumer-targeted HDV, high-def camcorder format.
