I used HDadvance with my PS2 to copy my games over to the HD because I am too lazy to get them out the cases, and games are normally 1.5-3gb in size. Surely the PS3 games arn't going to be any smaller, and over the course of ownership of a console you easily rack up 30 games +
If you take 30 PS2 games they would be between 70-90gb, SO it may do for the average person, but I would imagine there will be people who will need alot more. No doubt sony will release HD Upgrades later down the line.
I'm not saying its a bad idea, in fact its the future of digital media delivery for both games, music and movies.
The problem is, especially with Sony involved, is that the beggers don't really pass the savings down to the consumer. The DVD pressing and distro costs are gone (apart from the server) and the middle man can be completely cut out. Also, the fact that you wont have anyway of trading games second hand to recoup you investment and fund another purchace. This mean even more revenue for the publishers. Not to mention the extra revenue from killing piracy. We will see a decent and fair reduction in price? I hope so, but if Steam, and Itunes etc for that matter, is anything to go buy then i doubt it :/
I great to not have to pop down the shop, but i actually like having something to hold and own and trade etc. I would not mind given that up if i really thought i would be saving a decent amount of money.
