Google starts to beta free online web-page maker - Google Page Creator

Latest Google freebie is Page Creator - an online web-page maker. The new offering, currently in beta, is available only to users of Google's email service gmail and looks to have already proven overly popular. New would-be users are being told,

Thank you for your interest in Google Page Creator! Google Page Creator has experienced extremely strong demand, and, as a result, we have temporarily limited the number of new signups as we increase capacity. In the meantime, please submit your email address and we will notify you as soon as we are ready to add new accounts. Thank you for your patience.

Google's press release explains more about the product and about the problems with new signups.

Google Page Creator has been designed with ease of use in mind. Its unique interface enables users to edit and create pages just as they appear online, without knowledge of HTML or other computer programming languages. Combined with a simple one-step publishing process, users can create attractive, functional web pages in minutes – hosted by Google for free.

Google Page Creator is a web-based tool, meaning no download is necessary. Users need only visit http://www.pages.google.com and sign in using their Gmail account to begin creating and publishing their own web pages.

Google Page Creator will be available on Google Labs, an area of our site devoted to our favorite ideas that aren't quite ready for prime time. We look forward to hearing from our users on how Google Page Creator can be updated and improved to better serve our users' web publishing needs.

We decided in advance to limit the number of page sign-ups in order to provide users with an optimal publishing experience. Due to extraordinary demand, we recently reached that limit so we have temporarily paused additional sign-ups. We expect to offer sign-ups again very soon. Users may check the Google Page Creator website regularly for updates or submit their email address to a wait list and we will contact them when we have the capacity to support additional users.
Sniff, and I was SO looking forward to having a fiddle with it today.

Update - URL was incomplete - now fixed (thanks to Davos for pointing this out!)
