Dual core notebook chips from AMD on the way

The dual-core version of the Turion, cunningly named the Turion X2, is due in early May. It will introduce AMD's first rival to Yonah, where the two chips will face-off for both performance and power consumption crowns.
    pAMD]will introduce 1.6GHz/512Kx2, 1.8GHz/512Kx2, 2.0GHz/512Kx2 and last but not least a 1.6GHz/256Kx2 microprocessor.

All have an extremely low supply voltage of 1.075V, so power use should be pretty miserly.

You could get your work done on an old Pentium-M as well.

Turion performance is appalling compared to the Pentium-M's so AMD have got to make a massive leap to have any sort of performance which can compare with Core Duo.

Are these socket 754 or 939. I know turion is 754. If they are 754 it mean that people with 754 mobos can have dual core with maybe a bios update.

Unlikely to be 754 for the same reason that desktop dual cores are 939 not the pin outs for the extra power.

Depends what your using it for i guess, but the Turion can certainly give it a run for its money.
Oh, and its 64bit, should you need it

They seem to have come a long way from when I last saw them.

However, Intel really have the market with this one, and if you want a nice thin and light, it's going to have an Intel in. After reading that article it does seem the Turion is a decent platform, but finding a decent manufacturer who will use the processors will be tough.

I agree about the market, there are few desirable "mobile" AMD solutions. I went for a Sony TX1 and 6-7 hours mobile life.... sorted.

I've traditionally gone for AMD, and on the desktop they've mostly impressed more on the bang-per-buck ratings. If I was getting a new laptop (which I'm not as my current one isn't a year old yet), then I'd be looking at dual-core because that's the way forward, and AMD don't really have anything there yet. With the sales volumes on various processors at the moment for difference prices, you'd expect them to be priced marginally lower for the same performance as the equivalent Duo, which would result in Duo prices coming down as well, so it would all be good.
