"Kind of expensive" - do you know how expensive?
Also, any idea when this will be available (a) for reviewers so I can read up on how it performs and (b) most importantly for me to buy (in the UK)?
I was close to getting the Dell 3007WFP a month or two ago but changed my mind when I heard that Samsung's screens were usually better quality and the Dell had some brightness uniformity problems, so I've literally been waiting for this announcement and I'm rather excitedI hope it lives up to my hopes (although I would have to admit that it's already let me down on the connectivity front).
Finally, a couple of questions relating to features which you may or may not have seen: Does it have a built-in USB card reader like the Dell does? And does it support HDCP over the DVI connector like the Dell does? The latter thing is particularly important.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer!
The non-informative PR chap I spoke to earlier said it would 'probably' cost more than the Dell.
I've just tracked back to the Samsung stand, spoken to someone more informative, and have the following information.
There will be a 4 USB2.0 ports built into the chassis. The prototype version didn't have them.
The PR person reckoned that the monitor will not support HDCP, which I found surprising.
Retail availability is reckoned to be June at the very earliest, and may well be pushed back, unfortunately.
No word on retail price.
Wow, thanks for the extra information, that's really helpful!
I can't believe they'll leave out HDCP, that's pretty bad. Also a USB hub is pretty good but I also rather like the idea of the Dell's built-in card reader.
Hmm, this isn't turning out to be such an easy decision to make after all!![]()
That's a stunning display... HDCP would be a serious omission, though, with the moves from Microsoft and the like to facilitate progams and content providers requiring it. I wouldn't be comparing it to my existing display as much as comparing its cost to my bank balance, which I'm sure wouldn't be a favourable comparison.
If it's not got HDCP, you can maybe expect it to hit bargain bins when Vista's released?

If it's not poker or computers I'm probably not interested...
Hi again. I just wondered if there was any news on this monitor's availability yet? It looks like your contact's suspicion that it may be pushed back past June was right!
to be fair, the vast majority of sales of a monitor of this type will be to professionals/video editing folk and so on. the number of users using it for videos and gaming will be relatively slim, which is probably why hdmi isnt such an important consideration
