    Rahul talks Conroe testing

This morning we brought you Intel Conroe benchmarks in which Intel's next-gen chip beats AMD's, it seems, hands down. Of course, there are a number of things that could affect the results, and VoodooPC's Rahul Sood has some thoughts on why it's unfair of Intel to compare their next-gen CPU to AMD's current-gen effort.
Intel jumped into their time machine to show off a fetus that has six months to mature before it turns into a baby. They basically gave themselves the opportunity to ride in this time warp without giving AMD a chance to get in the passenger seat. Anytime you compare a future technology with an existing one you should expect to see some performance differences, but looking closer it seems as if they are comparing future technology with older technology, rather than current, in some respects.

I would tend to agree with him except for the fact that Conroe wins were so large, having the processor correctly reported is not on it's own enough to give you a guarranteed increase in performance at all, memory timings are but not that big a percentage in games .. games mean cpu power and graphics almost exclusively, memory is very small, cetainly not near 20-40%.

As for AMD increasing performance with AM2 and DDR2 .. certainly, but Intel will be as well, he conveniently forgets to mention this - presumably he was too busy thinking about selling all those FX based desiktops that he does

Biased ? No surely he's not

    Regards

I think he may have a few valid points there, certainly I won't trust any of the figures until Rhys can get a proper HEXUS test done on it in his own time..

Some valid points, especially regarding BIOS revision as I've seen myself first hand the difference a month makes when I updated my motherboards BIOS.

Anands come back with a reply, obviously he took umbridge with what was written but is too polite to say so. As expected Conroe still leads by a large margin that not even an r580 will eat into much.

    His departing retort :-

"It’s also worth noting that the 2.66GHz E6700 we previewed here is simply a high end mainstream part, it is not an Extreme Edition flavor of Conroe. At 2.8 or 3.0GHz, a Conroe EE would offer even stronger performance than what we’ve seen here. "

    The Anandtech article addresses this.
"In a perfect world... spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged their penises, taken Viagra and are looking for a new relationship."

    yes it does.

Also, in games whenever did you say, when the frame rate was jerky :-

"Oh my BIOS is so out dated "

    or

"Oh my chipset is so slow ! "

Compared to cpu and graphics this is like lighting a candle next to a blast furnace.

I thought the point was that the bios version they used has some memory related
    problems.

I think the point was about the fact that particular bios revision completely stuffed FX-60 performance.

Like I menioned earlier, I won't really trust any of the marketing figures until it's a real purchasable product and someone like Rys can do a proper unbiased side by side comparison.
