The details are in, and way up in Microsoft House a smug Bill Gates will be chuckling away.

Anyone wonder why they would add a gigabit network interface to connect to "Broadband Internet"... Don't know about you but I really need 1Gbit/s to run my 2Mbit/s Internet connection at its full speed.... Pah!!! 60gb drive sounds a bit more like it but isn't it going to push the price up even more?

Personally I think that Sony are upping the specs in the hopes that people will think its going to be vastly supirior to the Xbox 360 and as such will wait for it. The problem is I think in most cases people are so into believing what sony says that it might just work. Doh!

"PS3 development kits to be sent to developers in June"

"World-wide PS3 launch in November this year, the 11th November is the predicted date"

"Sony will push forward a powerful product launch to spread the platform rapidly throughout the world, together with a strong and attractive lineup of PS3 game titles"
Something doesn't tie up here! that's 16 weeks to develop AND test a "strong and attractive game line up" then start production.... Good luck Sony.

I was wondering the same, although there are games already being created so i presume the development kits are so they can be changed to utilise the PS3 hardware?

The difference in cost for a 10/100 ethernet chip and a gigabit one is probably in the region of a few cents, might even come free with some of the other IO components they are using. Makes another feature for the markateers to sell.

60 gig hdd is virtually the same price as a 20gig drive tbh - the price difference is probably less than £2 - the same goes for gigabit lan - the cost of producing the chipset is so slight over the cost of not, it makes sence to do it - you've gotta remember that these consoles will still be in mainstream use 7 years from now, so making them as future-proof as poss is a very good idea.

The devs have had development kits for ages now, June is just the date of the final hardware, upon which all future dev-kits will be based.

the gigabit ethernet is for networking to your pc, so you can transfer data, your ethernet connection will be used to share the internet as well, so gigabit lan makes sense.

60GB does kinda make sense with the download service of PS2/PS1 games,MP3,HD Content the more space the better for us.

P.S if PS3 has any HD streaming functions like the X360 then the gigabit lan will be needed.

mmmh.. can't quite tie this line up with the later used term 'global launch'. sony seems to have forgotten about europe...

However, he also revealed that Sony plans to release the system in Japan, North America, and Europe simultaneously this November.
