I'm impressed, but I fear this part may be a problem!

Problem you've got is the UK networks jumped on the 3G band wagon when Edge provides similar speeds and didn't require the billion pound licenses....

They've got to pay for them and make it look like 3G is making them money before the stakeholders would be happy about investing in what could be another "high risk" license for Wimax.

So you'll probably see Wimax in about 30 years when they've sold enough dirty videos to cover the 3G license costs.

The license costs are high - yes, but isn't WiMAX network is cheaper to build ?

I have been following WiMAX a bit for a while now. Although some countries have already began rolling out networks, its something we wont see on any useful scale in the UK for a very very long time (if ever). Its best hope is as a 'last mile' solution for areas which cant support broadband due to poor/long lines.

As well as the mobile networks putting all their money into 3G, BT are investing a lot of cash and time in the "21'st century network' which is basically to completely replace the UK's entire phone network by 2011 for super high speed internet everywhere.

[OT]BT with the 21CN are really shooting themselves in the foot - they are still using DSLAMs, albeit ADSL2+ ones, for house connectivity. [/OT]
