NeverWinter Nights 2: Hands-on Preview

The first thing that you’ll notice in Neverwinter Nights 2 is the graphics, which aren’t just an overhaul of the old engine but a complete, ground-up re-write. This graphical rejuvenation has had a knock-on effect in other areas of the game, which I’ll cover later, but for now, let’s just say that Neverwinter Nights 2 is looking very good.

any word on the Linux port? NWN had reasonable Linux support, and whilst i know NWN2 was initially gonna drop it, iirc community backlash changed some minds

Discussion on the Bioware boards indicated a linux standalone server might be doable, but a linux client not, due to the directX layer they now use.

Any idea what kind of computer the pre-beta was running on?

Wow, the graphics are amazing. It's not really my sort of game but the graphics are astounding. Did I mention the graphics looked really great. Kind of like the early computer animated movies, it's amazing how fast things progress. I still remember playing Microsoft Flight Simulator for mac in its early days. Black and white lines and standard fill patterns as a few frames per second (if you were lucky), and that was about 15 years ago.

As has been said, and I've got to agree, if the screenshots are any indication of the graphics quality to come, and the gameplay is a good as is rumoured, this looks like it could be one awesome game.

I've been avoiding upgrading for quite a while, but I think this may be the final factor against the venerable mobile athlon & 59xt. And to think theres so much of the original I still haven't played through...
