the online service came of age thanks to Microsoft. micropayments as part of that, again goes to Microsoft. and nintendo's Virtual Console is no closer to release than the equivalent function on the PSP (and does microsoft win again here, since some of the games on marketplace are old?)

With the promise of music, movie, game and content downloads, and even an auction facility, the PlayStation Network Platform is set to be huge business.

Isn't that what Live promises? Either way I'll be looking forward to getting one when the price drops. A lot

Good question, I'd assume it's World-wide but I'm not 100%.

Microsoft only allow content downloads at the moment. As it stands i can't see them offering full game downloads until they release larger HDD as the 13Gb we have at the moment is going to get filled by only 3-4 games.

Sony have a big advantage over MS & Nintendo in that they own lots of music labels and movie studios, and with the 60Gb HDD in place there won't be a problem with downloading games & movies. So in 18 months time i should be able to dl Spiderman 3.

With an estimated 200 milliion Playstation 3 units expected to be sold

But that doesn't mean that PS3 will sell 200M units, for once Sony has a serious contender for the crown and for peoples money. It's not going to be plain sailing for Sony this time round.
