Will Apple ditch Mac OS and adopt Windows?

Might seem like a very stupid question but John C. Dvorak seems convinced it's on the cards, having been persuaded in large part, he says, by Yakov Epstein, a professor of psychology at Rutgers University.

Check out Dvorak's musings over at PCMag then let us know if you reckon it's complete drivel or highly likely.

Surely if they were to ditch MacOS, they'd be no reason for a user to buy overpriced Mac hardware over standardised PC equivalents?

seems pointless to me. They would have to reduce their hardware prices down to OEM levels which would kill them i think.

Edit: Unless they ditch hardware and become another software company with their creative apps. but again i think it is doubtful

I don't think they would ditch OSX, that would finish Apple off!

John Dvorak is the web's equivalent of a "shock jock", saying stupid stuff so he can get people phoning in. This issue doesn't even need analysing, it's pointless!

I really don't see a point to this, besides on manufacturing a PC that is capable of Loading both OSX and WinXP without any modification. I don't see how that would give Apple a significant advantage.

That is complete balls, if Apple were ever to stop Mac OS then it would be cause Apple had gone bust, and frankly I don't see that happening.

I consider Windows Vista, Longhorn Server and their development products to be the greatest pieces of technology in existance. However there will always be Mac users who want Mac OS, and I myself am considering saving to purchase one of the Intel Macs.

Just to echo popular sentiment, there is no way Apple would take this path. The only reason to get an Apple is because of the OS. Apple can't survive on iPod alone.

Surely if Apple were to drop anything, it would be their hardware, not the software. Although unlikely, I feel it'd be far more plausible for them to present their OS for PCs in the future than vice versa.

And correct me if I'm wrong a large amount of the stability is due to the fact they're not trying to support every ever existant piece of hardware.
