That was quick
Have MS designed the 360 in such a way that they can prevent the mod being applied with their own software update? (thats kind of rhetorical btw)
(btw, that square advert in line with the srticle on the left hand side does weird things when the text is that short. you can't make out the "Other Related Content" links)
See now I think these people are pretty clever and props to them for doing it. I will not be supporting anything like this though as I try my very hardest to have all either legit of open source software
That was quick Shame I don't have an xbox 360
gosh, and they wont even need a bypass chip like Messiah.. just a firmware mod and voila..
Me want Ultrabook
Its not quite as simple as you think.
For every 'backup' game you want to play, you've gotta extract a piece of code from the backup image, and flash it into the DVD firmware... So its not exactly the most user friendly hack ever. But its a start.
Plus the fact you can't be connected to Live, ever, cos they'll be able to flash it back and ban you're account
Diablo (Main PC): Corsair Air 540; Gigabyte Z77-D3H; i5 3570k @ 4.4Ghz; 16Gb Corsair Vengeance PC3-12000; 120Gb Samsung 840 EVO; EVGA 980 Ti Hybrid; 2x Dell U2414H; Windows 10 x64.
Imperius (VM Server): 2x Intel 5640, 64Gb RAM, 2x1Tb, 6x Intel NIC, VMware ESX 5.5
Tyrael (File Server): Synology DS410 w/ 4x HD154UI; 2Gb RAM; DSM 5.2
It's still pretty impressive, not needing a hardware mod like the current gen consoles do. However, losing your live access is pretty daft, as that's as much a part of the 360 as the games are.
I reckon soon we'll be seeing an XBMC for the 360 then, which will be great - open up more audio/video formats for the users to play with.
Firstly, you dont have to flash anything extracted from the game back into the firmware. You need to extract the security sector so it can be burned back to disk.Originally Posted by BlackDwarf
Secondly, there is no known case of this happening via Live yet on the 360. Ive no doubt they will add checking pretty soon though
