First UK Playstation 3 pre-order schemes open

Two retailers have twitched first, and opened up their pre-order schemes for Sony's latest console, the Playstation 3.

    www.dvd.co.uk at a wallet-busting £499 (€728.54)
    and
Gamestation at a slightly more realistic £424.99.

Or you can, as a little mole tells me, pop into most GAME stores and put yourself on the highly unofficial pre-pre-order list - if you don't mind being cajoled into buying a bundle there and then when you go to collect that is..

hmmm... 400+ for a console that is mediocre and chunky or ~400 for a full featured 360 and a Wii?

Still, I'd like to know how many people sign up for it..

360 is the same, or greater price once you add on the hdd, wi-fi, wireless controller, and later on the HD-DVD drive.

You pays yer money, you makes yer choice.

The big winner in all of this though is the big N - free marketing by both sides, and cheap enough (probably) to be a parent-friendly christmas present!

Hopefully with this Nintendo won't need to prop the business up with gameboy/ds sales, which will allow them to invest a lot more in R&D for whatever they come up with next

I think I'd rather have all 3 tbh... rather than miss out on some great games (all consoles have their own brilliant games)

I think we'd all rather have all three, takes the difficulty out of specing each one up and checking the games line up.

I think we'd all like the ca£h to be able to do it too

I have to admit I'll be buying myself a PS3 to sit alongside my XBOX 360.

Not convinced on the Wii as yet as I was never a big fan of Nintendos games. Too cutesy for my taste and those that weren't were available on the other consoles. However, the Wii-mote sounds very interesting and I hope the games manufacturers utilise it beyond games such as tennis. I would give my right eye to use something like that on the 360's Oblivion. Listen up Bill!

I definitely won't be going for the HD-DVD add-on for the 360 though simply because I don't think it will win the format war. Blu-Ray has more corporate weight behind it. Unless the 3 studios backing HD-DVD go into release overdrive they are going to be swamped by the Blu-Ray camp. But judging by the current HD-DVD releases It's not looking good.

I would... possibly just go for the Wii... but as i went for the GC over the XboX and the PS2 first... I might wait... tbh i dont really play many console games (well ok... maybe RE4 for the PS2 and a few xbox titles)...

but apart from that i think ill just knock on some random persons door, pretend to know them and try to get a go on their new console...

It's not an offical DSG-wide campaign though is it?

Several individual stores have had pre-orders open for a while (without having any pricing attached), but gamestation is the first with a company-wide & internet pre-order scheme.
