Microsoft have confirmed that DirectX 10 will be exclusive to Vista.

Didn't expect any different tbh.

The amount of work required to allow DX10 to run on XP will be quite phenominal, DX9 -> DX10 conversion/upgrade/change/compatilibilty is more than just adding a few pixel shaders.

As most will know, DX10 requires new hardware, not just software, so the OS will need to be able to run the hardware as well, which is not as easy as just using different drivers.

TBH i think Windows Vista will be the first Operating system that I actually buy, it is looking good tbh. And all I need next year is a graphics card so I can afford to buy the OS aswell. DX10 is going to be the absolute best dx ever released and its not to be missed, we all know microsoft are money grabbers but who else is there tbh?

I'm not suprised by this news at all.

Vista may look like XP with a fancy skin, but don't forget that MS have practially ripped the OS apart and re-written most of it from scratch.

will hopefully get Vista free from Uni... and I guess i'll save upgrading til it comes out... not much point getting another dx9 card if its not gonna be able to run the new farcry game

I'm very much looking forward to vista.

Hopefully people will start leveraging some of the power in these 64bit multi-core supercomputers we play minesweeper on

It could take Vista to really bring 64bit multiprocessor computing to the masses.
