Maybe we'll see some decent chipsets for the AMD platform?
lol, i dont think it will be likely...
Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.2Ghz (400Mhzx8) 1.52V (set in bios, 1.47v real) | 4GB GeIL PC6400 4-4-4-12 | Gigabyte DQ6 @ 1600Mhz | HD2900XT 1GB | Enermax Infiniti 720W | Silverstone TJ07-B with custom watercooling | BenQ FP241WZ
3dmark05 - 13140 | 3dmark06 - 6698 | SuperPi 1M - 15s
If this happened, you can see Ati cards being 'tuned' to give better performance with AMD processors. This would be bad news to people like me who like nVidia and AMD, and probably bad news for the industry as it would force nVidia to team up with Intel to get the performance back, and then PC architecutre would start dividing in two...
I've got my fingers crossed this goes nowhere.
yeah and Apple and Dell will merge...
I doubt it will happen... You never know though. A lot of people doubted the Dell Alienware merger, however, this is a significantly different situation.
it would take a factor of choice from the market place, but it would put in a level of improvement.
personally, i like amd and ati [though crossfire is a bit of a joke and if something doesn't happen soon then i may change my opinion] so a merger that would have a positive effect [as sooooo many mergers don't] would be a good thing imo.
unified shader architecture unified with the cpu in some how, now that sounds good to me!!
Bad idea in my opinion. Having one company in charge of two many things is not good. People complain about Microsoft being a monopoly. If this occurs, even though there is still Nvidia and Intel, its another step to world domination (or something).
I imagine a world in 20 years where there are two groups- Microsoft, ATI, AMD and other stuff , and Google, Amazon, Intel, Nvidia etc. Not good.
NO...I can't see this happening, but would make things interesting, as silent shark said, Intel would have to merge with nvidia.
Now you see why 'Analyst' is such a descriptive name.
Roflmao - if you want Nvidia to stop making chipsets for any AMD platform then this would be the best way of going about it. I wonder how many people are using NF2,3,4 chipsets compared with ATi chipsets percentage wise.

I'm not giving exact figures but we sell a LOT more Nforce4 & SLI boards than the ATi and other offerings.
Nvidia's chipsets are getting better and better everytime they release a newer version.
I've gone from Intel to VIA (laugh as you will) to SiS then to Nforce2 then Nforce4 SLI and maybe even Nforce5...
Spot a pattern emerging
If AMD and ATi did merge then it could spell the end of the AMD+Nvidia platform we've all come to love
I cannot see it happening, but stranger things have happened in the world of IT before
I think it's a good idea - the two companies make a 'good fit' really, without any overlap...coz AMD are sooo good at making motherboards! ;-p
Anand seems to think the new ATI AM2 mo-bo is very good (even better than the new AM2 from nvidia!?):

A merger seems pretty unlikely. AMD have had more of a strategic partnership with Nvidia as others have noted while Intel has (as much as they are ever likely too) one with ATI on the chipset side. However there is a lot that could be happening short of a merger and the refusal of both sides to comment (especially given how quick ATI's CEO Orton was to deny the Intel merger rumour previously) should indicate something in the pipeline.
rahul sood of voodoopc hasn't said anything about so i don't think it will happen but if it does it won't necessarily be a bad thing for nvidia: look at intel they have their own integrated graphics but still use others.
