Google's answer to Paypal goes live

It's here, after much talk about it over past months. It's called Google Checkout and it's live in the US now, primed to spread around the world soon.
Google says there are various options for including the system on websites - from cut-and-paste buttons, to APIs that allow integration with commerce platforms such as MonsterCommerce and ChannelAdvisor.

Customers without a Google ID can create one from the merchant's site at the time of purchase.

Hope it gets to stamp all over PayPal. Any word on how they deal with charge backs?

If I've read it correctly - I like the fact that they don't actually keep hold of your money like Paypal do - they just process the payment, like Worldpay for example.

    Roll on Checkout UK!!

Doesn't ebay own paypal? They'd probably lose a lot of money if people moved onto google checkout instead.

I don't use paypal because of some of the horror stories I've read. If this google checkout becomes popular I'd consider using it.

As big as google are, it would take a hell of a lot to come anywhere near close to the behemoth that is ebay.

However, if they do it slightly differently, that might work. Auctions embedded in other sites for example? Hmmm....

If t works out cheaper to use that Paypal then it cool. I can't see ebay letting google in on any action though so I fully expect there to be a Gbay or something down the line somewhere.

Maybe google might have their eye on another auction site such as www.ebid.co.uk ?

There are a lot of horror stories flying around with paypal, legitimate companies just having their funds held. Mispayments made with no recourse. If you do have a problem they require all sorts of documents over and over. Lets hope google crushes them like a little bug.
