Core 2 Duo/Extreme around the web

I wasn't the only one of team-HEXUS.net up at 4.30am prepping for this, and a number of other site editors can say the same. Of course, some have the pleasure of being in more favourable time zones. Anyway, the web is rich with Conroe content now. Take it all in; don't take it all as given, everyone's going to have a different take or perspective, some of it you'll agree with, some of it you won't.

    GDHardware
HotHardware - Ironic site name, given Core 2's lower TDP

    Madshrimps
MBReview - A look at the Core mArch.
OCWorkbench - Bunch of Core 2 mobo stuff over there.

    Phoronix
    Sharky Extreme
Tech Report - Doing a great job, as always.

A special mention for the leg-ends at OCInside.de, who've updated their Intel processor product ID guide to take into account the new Core 2 CPUs.

weird, was on the site this whole time, no downtime noted, weird indeed give it a try though; we did some CPU scaling tests with Core 2 performance up to 4.5Ghz, the future looks bright!

Wouldn't surprise me if my ISP had decided to stop routing to Belgium for a little while.

You're best really asking on our forum area

Not sure yet, but I don't think theres a long delay. I would strongly guess that we'd have the Asus board you mention as well

This is great - the Core 2 duo/extreme lives up to the hype and they aren't mega bucks.
Once again, the performance crown has gone back to intel and every time this has happened in the past, AMD chips have gone really cheap. Based on rumours etc, it looks like this is going to happen at the end of this month.
Hopefully for me by next February (a year later than planned incidentally) low end dual core processors will be less than £120 and everything will have been out for long enough for incompatibilities etc to have been ironed out between motherboard, memory and processors.
I presume by then DX10 cards will also be out. Looks like an ideal time to buy to me

From my financial point of view, looks like I'm going to be upgrading some time near the end of the year. Was planning to go with the X2, but this looks yummy indeed. Unless AMD pull something special out of the hat like half price CPUs, I'll probably be going intel again

What I think will happen is that AMD won't really compete with these but soak up the lower end of the market. sub 6300. The prices of chips like X2. 3800 will be very cheap and don't forget that just because there are new better things doesn't make the old any less capable.

This is very good if you want a cheap dual core build.

I'm gonna be waiting as well.
In a somewhat sticky situation as funds are lacking so need to wait b4 upgrading, yet I have a 6800gt agp card which may be worth peanuts by the end of the yr...only option is the asrock mobo supporting Conroe, agp & pci express...hmm..o well it should still be able to serve my needs.
