Apparently part of the plan is to stop people from preordering a couple of PS3's so they can make a profit on ebay.
With the Xbox 360 people could reserve many machines for themselves, which made it pretty unfair for the other people who couldn't get one on release.
I don't know why people keep moaning about the price.
When you compare it with buying all the add-ons for the XBOX 360, the price isn't all that different.
...as for the preorder charge, if your intention is to definitely buy one then this guarantees you a delivery on the release date.
I think this is a good idea
yeah doesn't particularly bother me. It would if I didn't have £150 knocking around thoughOriginally Posted by Shazbot

Like? The only add-ons for PS3 are game related and have nothing to do with extra functionality.Originally Posted by j.o.s.h.1408
Sony have been running their own pre-ordering system since the launch of the PS2, i believe you need to sign up with your address and they won't allow 2 machines to the same address (think thats how it worked) I think its a good idea in trying to stop some of the scum buying multiples to make massive profit on Ebay.
The thing is that you will ha ve to pre-order the console on your credit card I'm guessing so all they will do is take a little extra off your card when it's dispatched.
It's the same as going into WHSmith and pre-ordering a DVD. They are well over priced but people still put a £5 deposit down for them![]()
tbh, for what you're paying for.. £150 seems rather reasonable.. traditional preorders have been far too risky.. and 50% of the time you'll be shoo'ed off as previously jack-o-someone has paid every penny in his wallet to preorder 10 in one go..
I have had mates doing the same thing on the Xbox360.. and tbh, its freaking annoying if I was buying one..
Yes.. He did preorder more than 10.. actually i think it was 14.. from different parts of town and online.. and ripped major profit in fleabay (like charging 70% extra on top of retail prices)..
Me want Ultrabook
but even if you buy add ons for the 460, the price is still cheaper than a ps3 unless you can tell me other wise
The PS3 is just hitting the scene at the wrong time for me, I was originally really looking forward to getting my hands on one for launch day. But now I'm more than happy to wait a while.
I've got the 360 already which I think is superb.
I'm going to be getting Wii cause if that doesn't look interesting I don't know what does!
Then there's the good old PC, with conroe on the scene and Vista due in the new year, it seems a good time to upgrade.
Therefore my christmas shopping list is along the lines of Wii, DS Lite and a new PC.
PS3 will have to wait, but frankly I don't mind. Blu Ray just isn't enough of a must have for me.
But that’s the point. With the XB360 you have the choice to buy what you need, when you need. If you don’t ever need an item, you don’t buy it.Originally Posted by Shazbot
While I admire Sony for pushing the PS3 from a games console to more of a multimedia centre, the Xbox360 has also done this, but at a significantly cheaper price.
Primarily - it’s still a games console. The large majority of people who will buy it will want it purely as a games console – why bundle things that people will probably never use then charge them a premium for it?
When looking at a game like “Marvel alliance” for both the 360 and PS3, the graphics (in my eyes) are indistinguishable from each other. Will little Jimmy’s mommy really spend all the extra money on a PS3 when the Xbox360 can do the same as far as they are concerned?
I am a bit concerned that Sony are classing the PS3 as a computer. If you were to look at the dictionary, complying to the definition of a computer would be achieved by any object with an IC inside. Sony are trying to give the impression it is something more, but I very much doubt I could use Excel (or equivalent)...
Matt.
Trying to put this in an none-offensive way...but I don't think this will make much of a difference.
If you are buying a PS3 then you already have more money than sense, so whats 150quid to you? Your still only (only, lol) paying 400quid or whatever for the console..
For sony it's good in many ways - reduces the number of pre-orders meaning that it doesnt look as bad for them if they can't supply every pre-order with a console on launch..
