When i installed Firefox 1.5.something on vista beta it worked just fine as far as I could see... Wonder what this is all about

Well, if Firefox already works perfectly on Vista, then perhaps it is just Microsoft trying to look as though it is being friendlier to the open source world, when in reality nothing needs doing to Firefox to make it run on Vista. Of course, Microsoft could really be trying to help... stranger things have happened.

not really, i think MS where/are wanting to get it to use the new vista features, rather than just run on WOW (windows on windows, the emulation of old windows)

Yea, it makes sense to me. Enable FF to take full advanatge of Vista and be 100% compatable , which could help boost Vista sales. (Im not saying it will, just the way Microsoft could be looking at it? )
Was it not long ago they were talking about making a converter between MS Office and OpenOffice formats? It seems the giant is starting to wake up and make their software a little more open ended, hence making it more attractive.
Is it just me or is Firefox slower and more resource hogging than IE7 is anyway?
Firefox has been getting more and more bloated in my opinion....

I think the speed thing is relative, to my eye I can notice no difference. I have to use IE at work but can use FireFox at home. I only have one tool bar and RSS feed though so maybe that is it.
It could be MS want more RSS action in Vista and as somebody said make it better than just another Window. It would benefit both parties in my opinion but the Linux community are so fame grabbing I would be suprised if they got MS on board.

yes because that would make much more sense than making sure it makes full use of the new proccess security token features
Remeber a lot of the msdn people openly talk about their use firefox (as do ch9 folk) so its use inside MS isn't un-heard of. Its just IE7 really does have the upper hand in many respects, but web developing types (bless em) understandably like ff.

Besides the fact that Firefox is cross platform, has a multitude of extensions of available, has a decent rendering engine (Gecko rather than Trident), is open source...

internet explorer 6's rendering engine (as used by avant) is utter tripe
it's seen almost zero changes since 1997
if people approached 3D games the same way they approach web browsers, we'd still be playing software-rendered games at 320x200
PR stunt-tastic.
I'm sure MS will be giving a helping hand to lots of organisations like this, especially the 'cooler' ones. A clever move by MS, but it's themselves they aim to help. If people favourite choice of software works great on Vista from day one they will shift more units am hopefully people we make the leap between XP and Vista sooner.
