seems reasonable - most dvd players don't come with half-decent leads..

typo at the end of the article there -missed off an r off reasonable

Also I think that a bit shocking - if you were paying 100-200quid for the console then yes that's fair enough, or if it were with the budget version (eg like the 360 core pack) but when you are paying 430quid for the top-end one..you expect to get all the cables you need - even if it's an el-cheapo cable..

I think the madness required to purchase one of these things is getting higher all the time..close to 600quid (with the accessories and games) for a games console that does nothing really that its competitor can't do (aside from marginal gfx improvements which mean nothing really) and an unproven video player that may become obsolete if HD-DVD wins out in the format war..crazy.

The site where I first read this had a link to this page - HDMI cables for $150+. That gave me a shock.

But I did another search and found one for £19 - go figure.

As long as the connectors won't pull off and a suitable guage of wire is used, that's all you need. How many people spend $150 on DVI cables for their PC? An HDMI cable is no different.

Some of these over-priced boutique cables are of truly terrible quality as well.

hdmi carries the sound aswell as the video signal so you could compare it to a scart cable, and its a fact you cant get a decent one under £15-20, so maybe this applies to the HDMI cables...

    maybe

    Thats what I was thinking.

I don't see any problem with Sony charging more for an alternative cable to view pictures. They are providing you with one method already...if you want more you pay, its the same with any product, the company gives you the standard, then you can upgrade to use some of the better features.

Doesn't matter what you are buying PS3 or DVD player...you are paying for the unit the other stuff is a bonus.

I think the HDMI cable will be £9.99... not that much really... but still a kick in the balls if you've bought the 60Gb version.

And let's face it, unless you're desperate, why buy the cut-down 20Gb version? It hasn't got built in WiFi or the card readers.

And given the huge amount of content that Sony are promising for download, (Apparently GT HD is going to ship with just 2 tracks and 30 cars, you buy the rest online), you're soon going to fill that 20Gb drive...

thing is, a LOT of users probably won't utilise the download function - the number of people i know with a ps2 and under 10 games is huge.. for those people 20 gig would be just fine.. if they *do* run out, they can upgrade pretty easily to a larger driver.. as for card readers and wifi, the 360 does pretty well without either..
