It definitely will be important if TDK get their 200GB BluRay disks to work and can sell them at a reasonable price.

My point is that I still think the overall war will be won by players bought for home cinema / consoles rather than by computer uses. The 200Gb thing is thrown about by Sony but is vapourware. They talk big on everything - the PS3 capabilities, PS2 (hey that emotion engine really made me laugh and cry) etc etc. It might happen but years away before mainstream and by then, the more reticent hddvd group may have upped capacities too. The format war is one on film quality/price, not by geeks like us, and both formats can hold full 1080p films.

I don't see anything inthe previous postings where we (underscore) talk about a HEAT problem with HD DVD.
All I know is what some friends as places like Circuit City and Ultimate Electronics report to me. Namely that Tohiba's HD-DVD players are having issues with heat. Now if that is NOT the case then someone should inform these people. If it IS in fact the truth, then Toshiba owes it to themselves to correct this ASAP!

The only thing I can say is that I would much prefer if Toshiba's format would "win". And if Toshiba can market an HD-DVD drive at a reasonable price, I would be willing to support them in the only way that really counts (cash!). On the other side of the equation, it seems to me like Sony has gone stark raving mad. At least judging by the prices they seem to want for anything BD related.

I keep all of this in perspective by reminding myself that either solution will apparently require a Vista upgrade. And IMHO Vista is still not ready for prime time. (I tried loading RC1 last weekend and basically just wasted 8 hrs of my time. - Yes I got it loaded but there are still some major compatibility issues. Why none of the glowing reviews describe these things is really curious!?!)

It's still technically vapourware Funkstar. Ok, I concede it may be closer than I thought. But will average consumer (ie non-computer) drives be able to read those multiple layers? Either way, companies will sell 1 movie, 1 disc so it's irrelevant
