Region free Wii was a mistake

Mis-communication by Nintendo as we hear Wii's not region free after all.

Check out the Headline for more info.

Nintendo are really shooting themselves in the foot big time. They're almost as bad as Sony! Price higher than we were led to expect, not region free after all, games are pricey, new controllers at £43(!!!!)...

You really have to wonder who's at the helm of these big corporations' marketing strategy. After all the positive glow of the early Wii feedback my mind has quickly changed from "ooo if it's less than £150 I might pick one up for a laugh when I go around for beers with some mates" to "£180 hmmm nah bit too pricey, and £43 for a controller? you're having a joke"

I'm now thinking I'll just stick with a PC...

Don't forget though you could think,

"£150 for one component for a PC, you're having a laugh!?"

The console in itself is extremely good value but is it enough to compete. Is it enough to compete on price point and gameplay alone.

RegionLock gives an excuse to chippers.. if there was no Region Lock then there could be no excuse to sell modchips?

Common sense isn't it? Makes you realise that the t!ts in charge of these large corporations don't have any.

I think alot of people will think that £180 is £20 less than a Xbox 360

    Actually, yes.

It's a psychological price barrier and marks the difference between 'cheap enough to try out' and 'too costly to bother with'.

Guys, can I just ask what's so bad about region locking in the context of the Wii?

If it's becuase you want to play the latest Wii game as soon as it's launched in the US, then I have to ask just how long you think the time difference between a US and EU launch is, because, on average, it's two weeks... So not all that long, eh?

If it's to play the latest Japanese version, well, have you ever tried the Jap version of Zelda? It's a bit unplayable unless you can speak and read Japanese...

Sure, for action games like Red Steel, I can see the point but I still fail to see why region locking is really that big an issue.

If it's a price thing, how many of you can honestly say that you regularly import US games for your PCs because of price? It's just not worth the hassle and the shipping costs often make it only marginally cheaper...

    Just my tuppence..

£43? I thought they were only £12.99 on Play. Which controller is it you're talking about?
