I watched a video last night on Microsoft's 'Channel 9' website about Vista and hybrid HDD's (HDD's with a small amount of flash memory on them) and was impressed. It wasn't the load time for apps etc. that realy got me but the way that a HDD would spin itself down as the flash handled the many small writes that the O/S would normaly make to the HDD. Another step towards dealing with battery consumption in a laptop.
They also mentioned that at the moment the read/write speeds of flash memory are allmost doubling each year compared a 10% or so increase in HDD speeds, another interesting fact :)
