Doesn't matter that much, the benches are still fairly impressive to say the least.

Setup by Intel, then we do our thing with it. Obviously limits what we can do, somewhat, but like you say, still paints the picture we'd expect.
How much are the quads gonna cost compared to the core 2 extreme?

I'd be quite willing to bet it'll be nudging on towards £1,000 at first... unless the Duos drop in price to accomodate the quads - unlikely given how new they are themselves.
Having an X in the name means it's guarneteed to be £600+ possibly closer to £1000.

The option to get a mid range conroe now then drop a nice new quad chip in there after the turn of the year is fairly appealing :)
Both my workstations are AMD, one of which is my video editing workhorse although it is now quite an old AMD XP 3200 chip.
I've been holding off upgrading until I see what AMD have in the new year. I'm beginning to wonder if AMD can pull back the significant lead that Intel now has in performance.
As most hardware video editing cards (Matrox, Pinnacle, Canopus) are more stable and certified for an Intel motherboard, there is even more reason to switch. It's a bit of a shame as I have always been a fan of the underdog and loved it when AMD kicked Intel's butt on the price performance before "core duo" arrived.
However, competition can only be good for the end user. I think it's time to dust off POVRay again.

a few people have the chips, a guy from the extreme prometia forums has one also , he bought it for 800 quid, over cocked all four cores to 3 gig and it was stupidly fast, its all in the latest custom pc, and is much more impresive than this article
Guess it'll cost the same as the X6800 does at the moment, all Extreme Editions since the P4 3.2GHz one have been $999.
