BenQ-Siemens phone-maker files for insolvency protection

Siemens' hand-over last year of its loss-making mobile phone division to BenQ - the Taiwanese company was paid hundreds of millions of Euro to take it over! - looks to have turned to rat's sh1t.

On Thursday (September 28) BenQ announced that it would no longer fund "unsustainable" losses at the German company - now called BenQ Mobile and selling phones under the BenQ-Siemens brand - and that the subsidiary was considering filing for insolvency protection, which it promptly did.
More here about this sad news.

When I called up T-Mobile over the summer to get my phone upgraded, I was offered the crappy BenQ-Siemens phone featured in the advert with Ronaldo. I explained to her that I didn't see that as much of an upgrade from a SE P900.

    Good job I avoided it

My dad has had a Siemens phone for a few years now, wha pile of poo. Has the same interface and a barely upgraded screen from my SL45 i had 5 years ago. The screen is colour instead of orange, but the resolution is the same as the old monocrome ones.

For a while he was trying to break it in the hope they would give him something better (it's a corporate issued phone so has no choice in what he gets despite being a director). And was doing quite well, several bits of silver plastic have fallen off never to be seen again. But now he is trying not to break it for fear he will be given a BlackBerry instead

If this is the last we see of Siemens phones i don't think there will be too many people with tears in their eyes.
