Xbox 3 chip will be manufactured and designed by Microsoft

Microsoft won't be relying on any third parties when it comes to the design of their next console's hardware.

Check out the Headline for more info.

Thats certainly an interesting way to do it, guaranteed to get all the glory and details can be kept secret...but no prior processor hardware experience.

Maybe they will copy architecture of current chips...I know they have a lot of money but would it be cost effective to get together all the expertise, factories and systems to do all this.

Still they didn't get where they are today by just accepting what they got!

Design - of course, I can see them doing this.
Manufacture - um not so sure, unless they happen to take ownership of a fab company that's already doing it.

Yeah I hadn't thought about that aspect, Kalniel.

I suppose then all they need to say is "We need XGhz and frequency and FSB to be X". Perhaps they will take advantage of the small dies around, Intel are looking at 32nm in 2008, that would be easy to cool!
