PS3 launch day mayhem in Japan

The launch of the PS3 in Japan goes down as storm as gamers push and shove to get to the front of the queue.

"Could anyone who wears glasses or is under the height of 4 foot 8 please step to the back of the queue." Ahh....

Check out the Headline for more info.

not surprising as they only assigned 100,000 consoles to Japan - they are keeping most back for america because there the xbox 360 has been a success (unlike in Japan)

to totally disregard the actual news article
The hand-held console (DS) has sold over 20 million units to date, in a country that has approximately 31 million people who play video games.
    woah that is nuts

Well everywhere has been saying 100,000 so i think its most likely that figure. Tell you what though, made some great stories in newspapers and TV. "PS3 sells out" and the like, as said in the article 100,000 units is nothing in Japan and was bound to sell out.

Should think Europe will be getting the same treatment, a low number initially for everyone to get the buzz and create some good PR scenes.

Also there was about 3 British people on the BBC website who flew to Japan just for the launch secured one and flew home...what a waste, a beautiful and interesting country ignored just because of some games console, not to mention the final cost of it all!

Just under 89,000 were sold, not sure where the others went, but most bets are on China/Taiwan..

apparently most of the people in the queues were illegal immegrants. simply put - punters were paying broke people to queue for 24 hours rather than doing it themselves.. inspired
