ATI RD600 first look @ OC Workbench

OC Workbench have a look at the up-coming RD600 chipset, ATI's core logic for Intel LGA775 CPUs, such as Conroe and co.
ATi RD600 is ATi's upcoming chipset that supports the Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processors. Just like its AMD equivalent, a single chipset RD600 can be paired with the South bridge SB600 for utmost performance. CrossFire performance will be greatly enhanced with its Xpress route within the chipset itself, supporting Dual Channel PCIe.
    [OC Workbench]

Despite the claims of higher speed, I'm not seeing them on these early benchmarks, but they are just that: early benchmarks. It'd be wise for us to apply the usual reservations to such figures, then.

EDIT: I thought I typed some stuff to go with the smiley.... anyway basically what I said was that review is terrible and it looks like they didn't really have much time with the board which was probably a binned board or something lol.
EDIT2: Why is ATI always late to the board? With my current computer I bought some sh**** nf4 thinking that RD580 was going to be released soon and it came 1-2months later so I didn't bother buying it. And now with Conroe ATI is late again and I expect will not be shipping RD600s until late September leaving me with the only option of i975X chipset...

After reading that review, I am not impressed - by the review and the board =P

I have RD580 at the moment (well until my Conroe stuff arrives ) and I am not that impressed with it either.......my overclocks are slightly higher then the NF4 SLI board i had before but real-world performance is no different.....and being a DFI board, its a bit more fiddly to get running smooth.

Unless a chipset has some bad design faults (Intel on nForce?) then a chipset isn't going to make a huge amount of difference IMO.

I am planning on going i965 (Asus P5B Deluxe to be precise) due to the great track record Intel has had with chipsets. Sod waiting for RD600, I can't see what its offering over Intel TBH.

    Unhappy

Agreed. I was keen to go with ati this time round as my x1900xtx is awesome. But I've got to the stage of wanting the new system now, the only option being to go with an intel board...

You have to remember that while ATI were trying to get this chiset out they were also in talks about the takeover with AMD and this will always throw plans and deadlines into confusion.

I think the next AMD chipset is the one to watch out for as things will have settled down and the ATI and AMD engineers can get their heads together to produce something good that actually appears when it's supposed to.

I'm giving this one a miss.

It may be that intel won't sanction another chipset from amd/ati so it may be the last. haven't seen that much wrong with performance of this board DFI LAN Party UT ICFX3200-T2R/G - RD600 Motherboard Review but must admit that the passive non std(uses clips) chipset heatsink may be an issue especially when reading that overclocking beeds nb voltage to be increased to max. I'm happy to fit an after market cooler but am struggling to know of 1 that would mount with the clips. So it may be the Abit IN9 32X-MAX unless dfi bring out their 680i any time soon

    luck.

    Only 8x on the PCI-E 16x slots

AMD/ATI have started to gain a lot of bad points in my books lately.

    Crossfire doesn't need 2x16. 1)Crossfire R600, Intel Board?
    2) There aren't currently any gfx card that max out the oci-e lanes. So it's a bit like having a half used 8 lane motorway & saying lets widen it to 16. Much of it is marketing hype

    luck

probably right but looking at issues & £ some have got with 8800 it's not always 1st out that gets it right . Now if Nvidia rushed things out a little less & ati got things done quicker - wouldn't life be great
