Nice. If it can cope with HD, then it may be able to be ok in games as well.

I'm actually surprised there haven't been more HDMI equipped graphics cards, and as you mention, HDMI equipped laptops. I would envisage most Media Centre type PC's having HDMI in the near future (even though it's just as easy to use a DVI-HDMI adaptor). HDCP is nothing spectacular, though. More of an annoyance than anything else.
Can HDCP be enabled on downloaded videos, etc? I know it can be enabled on HD-DVD and Blu-Ray media, but I'm not sure if HDCP or the dreaded 'image constraint token' can be used or enabled on downloaded stuff. Any ideas?
Isn't there another connector in the pipeline that's gonna kill HDMI stone dead?
Can't remeber the name of it but perhaps this is why we're not seeing too much HDMI equipped stuff.
Or it might just be the pc industry taking their usual time over embracing new standards.
Yes theres another, Displayport. I dont know about it killing HDMI, but at the end of the day it doesnt matter, they are all using DVI spec signaling for the video component so its just a matter of using an adapter to connect whatever the hell you like...it would be nice if they all jsut picked a bloody plug and went with it though ;)
Displayport is an alternative to HDMI that was ratified by VESA back in May, although i don't think anyone is using it.
It has some pretty good specs, up to 2560x1600 @ 70fps and 24bit colour depth. Audio is also transfered.
It seems more computer oriented rather than AV for HDMI.

I think DisplayPort will win over. If you look at your wiki link for dp, under technical specs, the 3rd point mentions "open" - battle over, really, as it's cheaper for manu's to implement.Quote:

HDMI was supposed to sort out the cable nonsence between TV, DVD (HD or otherwise), AV amp, etc. all in digital. It would be another kick in the gut of consumers if their investment in AV equipment was made redundant all because of a stupid connector.
its worth noting i've got an insainly old (well 1 year) intel 950GMA board, which has onboard HDMI out, including audio.
the drivers are phenominally dodgy.

it might be an open standard, but stranger things have happened.
If DP has launched a year ago I might think differently, but as HDMI is electrically compatible to DVI I can't see it going anywhere any time soon.
