HEXUS.gaming : Review : Warhammer: Mark of Chaos - PC

The emphasis of this latest strategy title is on war and the battles range from huge-scale epic cinematic battles over extensive landscapes to time restricted sieges on castle strongholds, with a wide range of smaller objective based missions and even quest based puzzle solving assignment thrown in to spice up the action.

Check out the HEXUS.gaming Review for more info.

Keep your eyes peeled for the competition coming later today.

Man I've been waiting for this for a long time. That said it will have to compete with the Dawn Of War trilogy and Medieval 2 for my time. If I can bagsy a freebie then I'll be ultra happy!

I played even more of Warhammer MOC last night after I'd wrote the review and I think I'll be ditching the other PC games I'm playing until I've completed that. Can't wait to create my own army and go online.

Tried the demo on Monday night, seemed really good. Added to my list of games to get (which, imo, is building up a little too fast).

Been looking at some comments about the game on various sites and many say that it isn't as good as Dawn Of War trilogy and Medieval 2. I can honestly say I have never played either of those games so can't comment.

I hate scored reviews...it says so little about the actual product.

Yep, I read that one, and one at Action Replay who gave it 77%.

Not sure where they've got the AI problem comment from. I played it on normal difficulty, although I think the default mode was easy. I can honestly say that in the time I spent on it, I thought the AI reacted well to commands, no problems at all. I tried varying all the commands and formations on the regiments to see how well they would react and never experienced any problem.

There are other game modes, so I wouldn't say they were wrong in their criticism and also many different factions to choose from (also you can choose either Chaos or Empire for story mode, so these have different paths and objectives in the game). Eurogamer haven't said which path they took or which faction that had problems with, so they could have played a totally different section of the game than me.

It's always worth reading more than one review to try and draw out everyone's positives and negatives (after all people will always spot different things) , I also do the same even when choosing a game, but I've given the game an honest appraisal based on my personal experience of RTS games. I haven't played Dawn of War of Medieval 2 so I can't say whether these particular games are better or worse than Warhammer.

All I can say is that I think it was a solid game, based on around 8 hours of gameplay, in campaign mode with the Empire. I do wish I had time to also play as Chaos, but I'm happy with what I played and can't wait to play some more!

I just picked up this title on the back of a couple of reviews. One thing that really kills it is the loading times, they're painfully slow! I also encountered stuttering in the game play and sound. Out of the box the game would black screen and hard lock the machine, I've patched to 1.3 and that has helped a little though I still get some spurious errors. I'm not a massive RTS fan, but this is pretty good, I'll be playing some more today, you need to invest lots of time if only to wait for the game to load the next level

Yeah, the loading times are annoying. I haven't had any sound or stuttering problems though.

Spent the best part of Sunday with this and have to say it's growing on me now. I sorted out the stuttering, un-checked the randomise voices option from the audio setup. I'm kind of getting into the big epic battles now, I'm following the Chaos path. Love the siege based maps.
