Wow, Microsoft sure is flinging a lot of mud at the moment..
Just because the Wii is going to utterly monster the 360 in sales doesn't mean they can dismiss it as competition like that..

sour grapes
funny really, when really it's the other way round...I would say that people who are impressed by lots of flashing pretty lights rather than the less obvious appeal of the wii are more childish imho
As Steve said though they are different machines with their own strengths..
Yeah, that was when Microsoft thought the odd person here and there would just buy a Wii to sit alongside the 360, and Nintendo would sit there "below" Microsoft.
As soon as the Wii starts selling by the proverbial bucket load, and threatening to make 360 sales look very silly, Microsoft dismiss it as a toy, and how it's not a real competitor to the 360..
Sour grapes indeed..

In my opinion, he's both right and wrong.
As far as console gamers go, those who regard themselves as 'serious' gamers (the guys who name their kids after Rainbow Six characters and get more than a little defensive if you rubbish the PC version of Halo) will probably leave the Wii alone.
Then there's the other gamers who play for fun, like me, and who don't really care if we get pwned in GoW, it's more about having a laugh. These people will probably get a Wii at some point, because it's fun.
The real battleground between the Xbox 360 and the Wii is over those who don't yet own a console or who have little knowledge of the console market and are driven to buy by their kids.
Faced with trying to get a non-existent PS3 (in the UK) or the price difference between the Xbox 360 and the Wii, I think the Wii will make up some ground on MS sales over the same period.
I agree, the Xbox 360 is a fantastic media machine but Wii Channels is really rather good to and has instant widespread appeal.
When it comes down to it, there's room for both (space wise, market wise and financially) and, to be perfectly honest, to dismiss the Wii as a 'toy' is to deliberately miss out on a whole bunch of fun.
Yeah, I mean resident evil was such a child orientated game
Yeah its a kids toy, but a kids toy aimed at everyone!
Never really been into them that much.
Whenever I mention that point everyone throws that game at me, I always say "and what else?".
I also think the MS guy might be on about the type of games coming out for the Wii compared to the kind of games on the 360, fair enough there are exceptions (Viva pinata on 360, and a few wii games like that sword-em-up) but generally the exclusive games on Nintendo consoles in the past have been very "kiddy".
I think they have a point, as Tom says, a lot of the games are geared towards a (in most people's eyes) younger market. However, as far as i know, those games are a huge hit in Japan, and that market of "kids toys" is extremely large - i know of many younger children who have 360's and will probably bother their parents when the Wii comes out.
Personally, i don't think Nintendo have anything to worry. People (and by that i mean Sony and Microsoft) have criticised them from day one and they still continue to outsell their larger cousins. Take the example of the PSP and the DS - many people argued that the DS was a cheap handheld with less than mediocre graphics and poor features "oh sure, a touch screen..". But, now the DS has sold a stupidly large number of units with the PSP languishing behind and i fail to see how this will be any different with the Wii and the PS3/Xbox360.
And MS needn't worry because as has been said many a time before, many people will buy a 360 for it's graphics and a Wii for the gameplay/interactivity and they'll still be under the PS3 price tag.
Also, i do remember when MS praised the Wii.. how unlike them to be two faced..
Don't mention the recent Linux hoohah then!
I found that amusing, sign up to work with one make and then slag off all the others at once by saying their copied intellectual property will bankrupt them later, that has one them no friends at all.
I will have a PC and Wii, its pretty much the same as having Xbox and Wii in my eyes. After all, aren't we now getting Halo, Gears of War and others?
